Pothibasa is Hindi name which is combination of two words Pothi and Basa Pothi meant for Pakshi (Birds) and Basa means Basera (Home) ie.. Home of Birds. Pothibasa is home of Many Migratory Birds .The whole Chopta Valley is home of different species of birds because of the dense forest which is protected in the name of Kedarnath Wild Life Sanctuary.

The Bird watchers visit during October - November and Feburary –March Mostly when the yatra is closed and there is less pilgrimage.

Chopta has Mostly camps tourist enjoy here the camping in lush green Bugyals , The permanent structure (Construction of Hotels) is not allowed and if guest wants to stay in a Hotel then Pothibasa is in Chopta valley and the Chopta vally starts 1 km before Pothibasa.The location is the midpoint for two famous destinations, Tungnath track and Deoriatal track .

Pothibasa is a small place covered with thick lush green forest and comes under The Kedarnath Wild life sanctuary the

same sanctuary also has Musk Deer Breeding center. Pothibasa has 4-5 decent and budgted hotels and Dhabas for tourist to relax. Tourist from Kedarnath to Badrinath and via versa stays here to proceed for the next destination next day.

The Location- This place is located in Chopta valley – As per history when there was no motor- able road, the devotees of Char Dham Yatra use to travel by foot and Pothibasa was one of night stoppage, old pahadi huts called Chhani were there and the devotees use to take shelter for a night. Now these chhanni are replaced by hotels and still can see the remains of few.

The old route is still maintained by PWD and some of adventure lovers still use it to reach to Tungnath ji temple which is just 3-4 km trek till Chopta gate from where further one has to trek up to Tungnath ji for 3.5 km and Chandershila 1 km.

Pothibasa is 13 Km from Ukhimath and the same raod leads to Badrinath via Mandal – Gopeshwar.

About Hotel Chopta House

An old building converted to a Guest House with all modern facilities to cater to a niche market, Chopta house project is aiming to promote Sustainable Tourism in the Valley and keen to showcase the flora-fauna and Garhwali Culture to the tourist of other state and international Travellers. The Guest House has 12 well decorated rooms including a suite, a multicuisine restaurant, Kitchen and 2 Public rest rooms. All rooms are attached with modern bathroom with 24 hrs hot and cold water facility.

Please note Chopta Valley do not have direct electricity supply. The alternate electricity supply is through Solar System , there is enough back of power supply 24 hrs but the solar energy has limitations and depends on the weather conditions due to this in rooms facilities like dryers in Bathroom , Room heaters ,Tea/Coffee Makers are not placed. But one can charge Mobile, laptop and Camera on the existing power supply of Solar available in rooms, Bathroom and in public premise within the property 24 x 7.

WI-FI , LED TV and Intercom facility is available in the room.

Chopta House has Majestic view of the Chandershila –Tungnath hill. It has a open terrace for sunbathing and relaxation during free time. Surroundings are full of greenery and beauty. Chopta point from where the trek starts for Tungnath ji and Chandershila is just 13 Km and can be covered in a day the guest can come back and stay, second day they can drive to other side for 7 km to Saari village to start Deoriataal Trek for 1 km.

Deoria Taal :it is a natural lake at a height of 2200 Mtr. Surrounded by thick forest and the diameter of the lake is approx. 2 km and one can trek around and enjoy its beauty, the view of the snowcapped mountain attracts the Tourist to take the life time photos and the reflection of Snowcapped mountains ranges on the lake is so clear ,Every tourist love to click and capture the view in his camera and it is possible only on a sunny day.

While the pilgrim travels to Badrinath from Kedarnath it is the mid-way to halt for one night and same while coming from Badrinath ji.

From Chopta House one can trek down for village walk just one kilometer, Makkumath village the winter worship place of lord Tungnath ji is just 15 km. Chopta is famous for Bugyals and one can enjoy the natural beauty of Rohini Bugyal here which is in uphill’s and just 4-5 km from CHopta House.
